Tyler Nakoa is a storyteller of the less travelled path. Having spent most of the last decade travelling through the mountains, deserts, forests, and towns of Africa, North America, Europe, and South America. He has become as much at home in wild open spaces as he is in the town he now calls home. Tyler was a poet before he ever meddled with melody, but the marriage was there all along and is apparent in every song he writes. Tyler’s other passion, outdoor and environmental education feeds his writing both in story and in the places it takes him.
Over the last 5 years Tyler Nakoa has been busking and playing small halls through Canada and down the East Coast of Australia. Tyler recorded his first album in Bellingen, “Throw Your Stone”, released in 2017 to a sold-out crowd.
His music is sincere and he has captivated audiences with nothing but a voice and a guitar, he points to the likes of Dylan, Ben Howard and The Tallest Man on Earth as inspirations. His set is a dynamic sound of guitar and vocal ballads, upbeat sing-alongs with violin, keys and percussive guitar held together by haunting harmonies with fellow musician Holly Mae.
Tyler will be releasing another EP in 2018 with Holly Mae as well as touring the east Coast of Australia; their music is the heart of the story, honest yet fearless in its vulnerability. From the mountains to humanity, these guys are worth seeing.
