ABOUT:
Tyler Nakoa is an independent singer songwriter, surfer, climber and environmental Educator, from the small town of Bellingen, NSW.
Having spent most of the last decade on the road, his songs tell tales of a path less travelled, from the wilds of the backcountry to the simple day to day; he speaks a truth in a similar way to Dylan, Joe Pug, Ben Howard.
Tyler’s music is an atmospheric blend of alternative and folk, with haunting harmonies, soaring rhythms, strings and potent lyrics. Creating music that is the heart of the story, honest yet fearless in his vulnerability. From the mountains to humanity, this is an artist worth hearing.
Over the last 7 years Tyler Nakoa has been busking and playing small venues on the east coast of Australia and in Canada. Tyler recorded his first album “Throw Your Stone” in Bellingen, released in 2017; and followed it with an East coast tour including festival appearances.
In early 2019, following playing mount beauty music festival, Tyler retreated to a studio in the Dandenong ranges for month and recorded a bunch of music which he is releasing this year.
The first single “Island” from his upcoming EP dropped on June 25th, and has since been added to a Spotify editorial playlist and racked up over 31k plays on Spotify. Tyler followed Island with a second Single titled “Something’s missing. Thematically dark and questioning, with a tone that is full and keeps you ever present, swimming in the sound.
Tyler’s latest release is "Step on in” a four track EP which hints at where his music is heading in the future.
About the EP “Step on in”:
Step on in is a new angle for Tyler’s music, incorporating a much fuller sound and providing the ending to a story that was begun with Throw your Stone. Tonally Step on in balances light and shade beautifully throughout its length. From the opening track “Something’s Missing” through to the ending “Nostalgia” the listener is taken on a ride through their own life, from troubled times to an unwritten future. Step on in blends smooth gentle harmonies, soaring melodies into a delicately crafted robust sound; this is an EP to wrap yourself up in, an immersive cloak to mind your life.
